International Union for the Conservation of Nature Granted Projects
From April 16th 2009 Rupununi Learners has been carrying out a series of community based environmental monitoring actvities funded through the International Union for the Conservation of Nature Ecosystem Grants Programme.
One of the main activities is youth-oriented programming in field research techniques, including participation in black caiman investigation; pit trapping and release of lizards, amphibians, and small mammals; wetland bird surveys; intensive field experience in tree spotting.
The village wildlife club and afterschool programme are targeted.
The other main activity is the facilitation of Natural Resource Management Planning in collaboration with another local organization, Bina Hill Institute.
Both of these activities are tied to conservation and ongoing regional and national ecotourist activities.
