Visitors have the opportunity to meet local craftspeople, including the furniture builders at Yupukari Crafters, a nonprofit venture to create village jobs and generate income for sustain educational development.

Your stay at Caiman House Field Station

A visit to Caiman House Field Station begins at Karanambu, where you will lunch and have the opportunity to swim with the McTurk giant river otters.

The river trip to Yupukari offers ample opportunity for bird-watching. Settle in at Caiman House Field Station with rum, relaxation, and dinner under the leaves: just-caught fish, just-picked fruits and vegetables, homemade breads, simple and fresh. Your room is rustic, airy and comfortable.

The first morning is for village exploration, including a tour of development projects and a nature hike. Depending on the season, caiman nests and hatchlings are also studied, or enjoy our collection of local wildlife, brought in for a closer look.

Beginning in late afternoon, and stretching into the wee hours, visitors are invited to join the caiman-study crew for as long or short a period as they wish (a separate boat is provided). The next morning the overland transfer to Karanambu airstrip doubles as a guided tour of the savannas.

Your stay at the guest house supports literacy and education at the village level. The Yupukari Public Library, the three school libraries it supplies, the nine schoolteachers and four librarians we train, and the nearly three hundred children they serve are the beneficiaries of our efforts and your dollars.
