Rupununi Expo is an annual event, a weekend in November when the Lethem rodeo grounds are the site for a display of Rupununi products and culture.
2005 saw the first appearance of Yupukari Crafters at the Expo; we returned in 2006 with a lot more furniture — and better still, a lot more people, with multiple laptops and stories to tell about the work they are doing in Yupukari.
With Hamzad Khan there to show off his furniture, Felix Holden and Shamir Khan to explain and distribute the Cayembe Telegraph, Peter Taylor to represent the caiman project, Franzea Roberts and Cindy Lawrence to tell about the Yupukari Public Library, and Mike Martin to describe volunteering at Caiman House, RLF was well-represented. And Yupukari had a chance to see itself in a new light: as a place where many good things are happening and work worthy of pride and public notice is being accomplished.
