For eight days in March 2007 twelve weavers from Yupukari, Kaicumbay, Quatata, St. Ignatius and Aishalton came together at Caiman House to innovate and collaborate on a new product line for Yupukari Crafters. Both Makushi and Wapichan hammock-weaving techniques were applied to develop original craftworks: woven headboards and footboards for bedsteads, themselves inspired by the design of hammock looms.

Starting from Junita Samuel's early experiments, these women solved the technical problems involved to create twelve new, complete bed sets, each one unique. All are in use at the field station today, including every Guest House bedroom.

Four of the weavers are also members of the Rupununi Weavers Society. It is hoped and planned that this was only a first foray into an ongoing partnership between crafting groups to learn from, inspire and support each other in developing exciting contemporary products from the traditional skills of cotton spinning, dyeing and weaving.
